ImageFrench toast is the quintessential weekend breakfast. Luscious thick pieces of bread drenched in an egg mixture and grilled - what could be better?  Well, thanks to Blue Hill Inn (Blue Hill, Maine), with a simple addition of amaretto you can now have gourmet French toast!  But don't stop there - complete the meal by serving the French toast with an amaretto, raisin and almond based maple syrup for pure indulgence!

French Toast with Amaretto, Raisins, and Maple Syrup


Serves 2

French Toast
  • 8 1" slices of baguettes sliced on the diagonal
  • 2 C of milk
  • 2 eggs beaten until blended
  • 2 T amaretto
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Mix milk, eggs, and cinnamon together until blended well.  Dip bread into mixture, coating both sides of each slice.  Cook until brown on 325 degree skillet, turning once.

Amaretto, Raisin, and Maple Syrup

  • 2 C maple syrup
  • 4 T amaretto liquor
  • ½ C toasted, slivered almonds
  • ½ C raisins

Mix all ingredients together.  Warm over low heat.

Serving

On warmed dinner plate, place 4 slices overlapping as a fan.  Pour syrup mixture over toast, sprinkle with powdered sugar, garnish with sliced strawberry or other fruit.  Serve at once.
