ImageIf you're craving chocolate then today's recipe is for you.  A Belgian Chocolate Horn stuffed with strawberries in a Grand Marnier sauce and accompanied with a Belgian chocolate Grand Marnier Truffle Torte.  Wow - if that's doesn't satisfy a chocolate craving its unlikely anything will!  Guests at Blomidon Inn (Wolfville, Nova Scotia), where this dish is a favorite, are truly pampered.  Try it yourself for some personal indulgence.

Belgian Chocolate Horn

  • 1 Dark Chocolate Horn
  • 1 Cup Quartered Strawberries
  • 1oz  Grand Marnier
  • 1 Tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 Slice Belgian Chocolate Grand Marnier Truffle Torte, see below for recipe
  • ¼ Cup Whipping Cream
  • Whipped with:
  • ½ Tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Tsp Icing Sugar
Place chocolate horn on serving plate. Mix strawberries, grand marnier & white sugar together. Then place inside chocolate horn. Place a slice of truffle torte next to horn on plate. Garnish generously with fresh whipped cream.

Belgian Chocolate Grand Marnier Truffle Torte              

  • 1½ Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup White Sugar    
  • 5 Tbsp Cocoa                    
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 Tsp Baking Soda   
Mix all above ingredients, making sure there are no cocoa lumps. Then add following ingredients:       
  • 1 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Cup Warm Water

Stir well & bake at 350  F

Makes an 8" cake.

Let cake cool before assembling.

Chocolate Ganache

  • 16oz    Dark chocolate
  • 16oz    Whipping Cream

Bring Whipping Cream to a simmer. Pour cream over chocolate & stir until chocolate is melted. Let cool until the mixture Add reaches the consistency of icing.

Assembly

Once cake has cooled, split into 5 equal layers. Drizzle Grand Marnier over each layer, being careful not to make cake too wet. Then cover bottom layer with ganache. Add next layer and cover with ganache and repeat process until all layers are covered. Then cover whole cake with ganache. Refrigerate.
