Favorite Foodie Ice Creams 2007/09/25 12:48 Karma: 0
I live by the code that "a scrumptious dessert should follow every meal."

I've tasted all the traditional ice cream brands out there and no one goes above and beyond. I'm looking for something innovative, fresh, yummmmmy, healthy and new. Anyone have any suggestions?

Since that age thing started happening to me and the doc has been complaining about my cholesterol, I've been trying all things soy.

I've come across "Purely Decadent" (the brand) "Peanut Butter Zig Zag" (the flavor). It's amazingly good, not so bad for you, and organic. Give it a try if you could find it. Our local Safeway sells it, so it's in the mass market.

On the more intersting side, we made the "Double Chocolate Frozen Yogurt" from Peggy Fallon's "Ice Cream and Frozen Desserts" highlighted here on Project Foodie.

We made it with a fresh, organic, yogurt and the ice cream ended up with a very tangy flavor. At first, the reaction was that it didn't quite taste right. After getting through most of the container, it was really good! Definately not something you'll find from Ben & Jerry's, but different and delicous in a different and delicous sort of way.

Thanks for the advice! I did some research and found a bunch of interesting choices. I did some tasting and found an amazing ice cream that I envision will play a large role in dessert future. It's called Laloo's Goat Milk Ice Cream (www.laloos.com) It has half the fat and half the calories as traditional ice cream brands without losing any taste satisfaction. In fact, I like it better than cow milk brands. They also some very interesting flavors.

Check it out!

Hmmm, the only experience I have with goat milk is goat milk cheese. The cheese has a very distinctive flavor. I can't quite imagine ice cream with that flavor. If I ever see it around I'll give it a try, but just doesn't sound good to me.

I totally agree with you. Goat CHEESE Ice Cream would be just plain weird. But Goat Milk is actually a different taste completely. The website's store locator will tell you where you can find it.

Laloo's is still on my list of must haves for dessert.
